The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap by Paulette Mahurin Book Recommendation

The year 1895 was filled with memorable historical events: the Dreyfus Affair divided France; Booker T. Washington gave his Atlanta address; Richard Olney, United States Secretary of State, expanded the effects of the Monroe Doctrine in settling a boundary dispute between the United Kingdom and Venezuela; and Oscar Wilde was tried and convicted for gross indecency under Britain’s recently passed law that made sex between males a criminal offense. When news of Wilde’s conviction went out over telegraphs worldwide, it threw a small Nevada town into chaos. This is the story of what happened when the lives of its citizens were impacted by the news of Oscar Wilde’s imprisonment. It is a chronicle of hatred and prejudice with all its unintended and devastating consequences, and how love and friendship bring strength and healing.

  1. To the wonderful new friend, Celticlady’s Book Recommendations for this act of immense kindness, I thank you. This is not just for promoting a book but its message is tolerance and all profits are going to animal rescue, to help save lives.
I am grateful for anyone who helps create more energy toward both of these causes, in any way they can.
Please feel free to connect up with me at my blog site as I am now following you here. All comers are welcome. All
with hearts of tolerance have a friend in me.

    • Paulette, thanks so much for the comment…I just wanted to promote the book before I did the review…I am reading it now…along with 3-4 others for blog tours. Rest assured I will definitely send you the post when I do the review. Getting people to be more tolerant is a huge undertaking but I feel that any way we can do this is great. I have a daughter who is gay and fortunately she has had to overcome very little as the people she knows and her family totally support her. As for the cause, animal rescue is also an important thing…we have a cat right now that we have had for three years.. we rescued her from the local shelter. They found her outside on New Years, she is so sweet, I can not imagine how her owners didn’t rescue her as she was there for at least 2 months before we adopted her. She is probably the best cat we have ever had…very personable…
